Bidding On Ebay And The Big Secret
If you are determined to make money online, working from home, on eBay or other online auctions you need to know, of course, everything about selling, however I feel certain you will be, or become, a buyer. I don't know what percentage of sellers also buy on eBay but I'm sure it's very high. You will need packaging materials, ink cartridges, paper etc for your eBay online business as well as personal stuff and items that you may buy to resell on eBay !
That last remark refers to items that are often badly listed items, items listed in the wrong category or misspelt that you could buy and re-list properly for profit. These poor entries often get no bids at all and if you contact the seller at the end of the auction and make him a silly offer you will be amazed how often they will accept.
HOW TO BID
If the item is not 'buy it now', you simply stick in your bid, ( always having in mind the maximum you are prepared to pay ) if you are out bid then go again and hope everyone else eventually drops out - might win - might not.
Alternatively you could register with eBay the maximum you are prepared to pay and they will bid on your behalf in the increments already established. I have found if you do this then eBay will enter your bid immediately which will often start a bidding war and you might find that your maximum will be reached too early.
Another technique is to use a 'sniping' tool.
This is a programme that will bid on your behalf - similar to the above but will wait until a few seconds to go before the end of the auction and if your maximum has not been met will place a bid so that the other bidders just don't have time to place another bid. The result is, of course, you will almost certainly win the auction. You could be at work or not have access to a computer or be asleep and still be victorious !
If your buying activity justifies it this may be for you - check it out.
The two leading supplies of this type of service seem to be auctionsniper and bidnapper.
They both have a free trial period and they both, I'm told, do a first class job .
You have probably guessed by the style of my description that I do not use their services partly because THEY ARE NOT FREE !
... but I should repeat that I have only heard good reports and I believe that their charges are low.
'So what' I hear you say ( isn't it amazing that I know what you are saying ) 'do you use Lawrence ?'
HERE COMES A BIG SECRET ...
I use the 'split screen' method.
Not as painful as it sounds. You get onto the main page of the item you are interested in - where you can see the bids coming in - and by clicking the 'restore down' button at the top right corner of your screen reduce the image of the page. Now open a new window on the same page and reduce that one.
You now have two images of the same page at the same time on your screen. I'm right handed so I put my maximum bid in the left hand image and keep 'refreshing' the right hand page to see the bids coming in. With about ten seconds to go ( not an exact science ) if my maximum has not been reached I click the bid button on the left hand page.
It needs a bit of practice but it isn't half as difficult as I have probably made it sound.
You must always remember that the same rules apply on eBay as conventional 'off-line' auctions - decide on your maximum bid and stick to it ! - if you loose out on something then another will come along soon.
REMEMBER: more than 50% of items listed on eBay DO NOT SELL - don't let yours join the list
